The Grand Egyptian Museum project, the world’s largest archaeological museum representing the fusion of modern architecture with ancient Egyptian aesthetics, bears the signature of Haz Marble…
Grand Egyptian Museum… GEM for short… One of the most magnificent cultural projects in human history… Rising just outside Cairo, in the shadow of the Giza Pyramids, this vast complex was officially inaugurated on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Referred to as the “Fourth Pyramid,” GEM spans approximately 490,000 m², making it the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization. This monumental structure is expected to welcome around 5 to 7 million visitors annually. Blending modern architectural design with the aesthetics of ancient Egypt, the museum takes visitors on a journey thousands of years back in time, creating a timeless impression from the very first glance.

FOUNDATION LAID IN 2002
The story of GEM actually dates back much further. First proposed in the early 1990s, the foundation of the project was laid in 2002. However, political fluctuations in Egypt—especially the uncertainties following 2011—and economic challenges delayed the project for many years. After a process spanning over two decades, the museum was completed in 2023 and officially opened in 2025. One of the most striking aspects of the museum is that artifacts previously scattered across different collections are now brought together under a single roof for the first time. In particular, the treasures of Tutankhamun are exhibited in their entirety, showcasing the grandeur of Ancient Egypt.

HAZ METAL’S CRITICAL ROLE
Now, turning to the importance of this billion-dollar project for the Turkish natural stone sector… In this monumental structure, natural stone undoubtedly plays a leading role. The complexity of the project required the selection of highly qualified companies to bring this ambitious vision to life. Haz Marble was chosen as the company responsible for the supply and installation of a total of 190,000 m² of stone. Haz Marble and Haz Metal worked hand in hand to design, supply, and install both the stone and the steel infrastructure for this vast area. It is also worth highlighting the project’s approach of emphasizing Egypt’s local identity, as Egyptian stones were specifically used. Haz Marble meticulously calculated every detail and sourced all 190,000 m² of stone from local suppliers and producers. All that remains for us is to admire this extraordinary project and the signature behind it.
