About a year ago… There was a great excitement at SMM Madencilik. The Konya-based company, one of the first addresses that comes to mind when it comes to ‘black’ in Turkey, is preparing to launch its new grey. Photographs are coming, the name is being considered, and then ‘Grey Karaman’ takes its place in Izmir Marble. Grey Karaman, which comes out from a different point of the Karaman Quarry of the company, manages to be among the remarkable products of Marble İzmir with its light tone and solid structure.
One year later… We ask Lütfi Kaya, Chairman of the Board of SMM Madencilik, about one year of Grey Karaman. He expresses his happiness about this process and says, “I can say that the first year for Grey Karaman has been successful beyond expectations. In the first stage, we exported blocks to India and Egypt in very high quantities, and we also exported to Europe as slabs. In January, we switched to the 3rd stage. It is possible to summarise the past year as follows. Grey Karaman was born, grew and is running,” he says.
The first favourite of the company is of course Pasha Black. This stylish and special black of the Turkish natural stone sector also maintains its position as the ‘cornerstone’ of SMM’s exports. Lütfi Kaya concludes his words about Pasha Black as follows: “Pasha Black is now one of the stones that have taken a place in the sector. Together with Pasha Grey and Pasha Ice Grey, it continues its journey in India, Egypt, China, Bangladesh and Europe. We are a company working with the logic of controlled production and reasonable profitability. We have come to this day without compromising this principle. We anticipate that the Chinese market may become more active in the second half of 2023.”
